Rot13 Decoder Geocoin - Antique Silver

Do you speak the language of geocaching? When you find a geocache do you triumphantly declare "I came, I saw, I conquered"? We think you do.

Geocachers tend to like puzzles, codes, finding hidden things and all kinds of challenges. It's what makes us geocachers! Rot13 was actually developed by Julius Caesar (or maybe someone he knew) in the 1st century BC, and rumor has it he loved geocaching. It is a simple letter substitution that replaces a letter of the alphabet with the letter that is 13 letters after it. Have you ever wondered how the messages are coded on geocache hints? It's Rot13 of course.

For this version of the Rot13 Geocoin, we asked designer Christian Mackey to work on a design for us. The result is a geocoin that not only has amazing detail, but also works as a Rot13 decoder, a key chain, and is trackable at!  With all that going for it, we think Caesar would have loved it.

For more info on this geocoin, here are some design thoughts from Christian Mackey:

The delta has been used here above and below because change (particularly in a ROT13 setting) is infinitely variable. By bracketing + or - values to either the top row or bottom row you can have an infinite number of possibilities encoding a message. Keys in Rome were often symbolic depictions of access both physical and mental. A physical encoding of a message reveals enlightenment of knowledge to solve a cache riddle or hint.

The phrase Veni, Vidi, Vici is a phrase translating to "I Came, I Saw, I Conquered (overcame)" attributed to the same Julius Caesar credited with inventing the encoding technique we now refer to as ROT13. I love the idea of combining his words, his ideas and the influential symbology of his time all in one design. The embellishments throughout both sides are common to Roman architecture and stained glass Rose window patterns.

  • How do I get an activeringscode?

With each travelbug, travel tag, geocoin of other trackable, you need an activeringscode to activate your trackable at
Sometimes, the code is already added, e.g. with most travelbugs. It is then available at the paper card which is included with the product.
With the other trackables, you need to request the activastioncode at our website via the following link:
    Request activeringscode.

  • Can I define my own trackingcode?

Sorry, no that is not possible.

  • Can I use my own existing tracking code?

You can use your own code on certain products.
This must be a trackable code (eg from another travelbug or trackable), so no self-invented code.
With those products you can see a label with a mark that you can use your own code.
In the product there is a separate tab with a field where you can enter the code. Make sure you save this

  • I want to use my own Trackable code for a sticker or decall?

That is possible. You can enter your own code for various stickers, which we then use for the sticker.
This code must be an existing trackable code from (eg from an earlier travelbug).
You can enter this in the 'Own input (...)' tab that you see to the right of the product information.
After entering the code, briefly press 'save' so that the code is stored with the product and then put it in your shopping cart.

  • Do I need to provide my own travelbug/trackable code?

No, with most trackables, a code is already placed on the product in the factory (travel bugs, geocoins, travel tags, etc). For some products (eg the personal tag or stickers) you can specify a code that you already have from another Geocaching product. Or if you want a sticker made with an existing code.

If you do not have that code, no problem, we will provide a code.
